A Note About The French Transmitter Sites

As a matter of interest there are about 520 FM sites in France transmitting all three main Radio France services.  Another 30 or so transmit a single programme (France Inter or France Bleu).

In total there are approx 5960 individual FM transmitters in France.  The figure for Britain is approx 1520 individual transmitters.

Many UHF TV transmitters in France had their powers reduced in the mid 1990's  Apparently TDF undertook a study of field strengths all round the country and an exercise to quantify the tolerance of TV receivers to a reduction in field strength.

The upshot of this was a wholesale lowering of erps;  the figures that accompany the photos are these reduced in service erps.  [Martin Watkins]

Information about structures around the world (Link):

Professor Anthony Davies suggests:  Try this link:    http://www.structurae.de

It is a huge database of buildings, etc. with some photos, and there is a big collection of Communications Towers, e.g. :
http://en.structurae.de/structures/ftype/index.cfm?ID=2013

The emphasis is on the mechanical and civil engineering aspects, rather than the radio engineering.  However, searching the site can be rather slow, in my experience.
