How to install a CB radio in a vehicle on a temporary or removable basis:

When installing a CB radio into a vehicle it might not be possible or desirable to permanently screw the rig bracket to the dashboard or other part of the vehicle. Here is an idea that may be adapted to suit a less permanent and removable method of installing the CB.

To avoid making holes in the fabric of the vehicle it could even be screwed onto a piece of plywood. The plywood would be cut to a suitable size and shape so that it could slide into the gap between the front seat, perhaps trapped in place with some foam or similar material, with enough length protruding in front of the seat to accommodate the width of the CB rig. The plywood would then be covered in some Duck Tape or other attractive material that matches the interior of the cabin.

Temporary / removable CB mounting method

The 'rig bracket' is fixed to a board that is made out of durable but flexible plywood or hardboard. The thickness of this board will depend on how thick the gap is between the seat or seat runner and the centre console, and also how flexible it needs to be.

The forward part of the centre console may have a pronounced curve which this board may have to bend round. If little bend is needed then the board may be 4mm or 5mm thick. If it is required to be more flexible then the board may need to have a thickness of about 3mm.

The board is then neatly covered in protective fabric or Duck Tape of a colour that is appropriate to the interior of the vehicle. Two small holes need to be drilled in the board where the rig bracket is fixed in place with two small nuts and bolts. The head of each screw is then covered with some protective material to prevent scratches to the centre console of the vehicle.

The board shown above has also be covered in some non slip material available from DIY stores to help prevent slippage or movement once it is in place between the seat and the console.

If the space between the seat and console is quite wide, it can also be packed out with fabric or foam to assist in keeping the board in place.
