THE
BRMB
CHRISTMAS
PANTOMIMES:
Here
are
the
amazing
BRMB
Pantomimes
from
1985
and
1986.
I
have
to
say
that
as
I
was
converting
them
from
the
old
original cassette recordings
to MP3 files that the tears were streaming down my face. Many of the
lines and references are 'in jokes' that would be very well recognized
by regular BRMB listeners - but even if you weren't a BRMB enthusiast
I'm sure that it will still be extremely amusing. This is CLASSIC BRMB
so here are some 'Must
Listens' :-

(Courtesy Richard Tucker).
Due to the long distance, out of area reception, the signal is weak
& there is some interference on the programme. This 1974 recording
made in Hertfordshire on 1151 kHz is remarkably readable considering
the distance and interference conditions! This recording would have
been made before the then recently launched ILR news station in London,
LBC, moved from its initial, temporary frequency of 719kHz (417 metres)
to its permanent 1151 kHz (261 metres) allocation. Once using 1151 kHz,
LBC would have almost certainly swamped the reception of BRMB in
Hertfordshire - so all in all a remarkable and quite historic find!

Yesterday Never Comes - with Les Ross (Courtesy Robert Scott) 16th August 2012
Meanwhile at that that very moment a little later on and in same place
somewhere else, here comes "Yesterday Never Comes" with Les Ross is the
true life story of the ups and downs and the ins and outs - and
sometimes the un-hoovered curtain pelmets - of the people of Little
Whittle, not far from Wattle:
Meet Lady Lord, the wealthy widow of the late Lord Lord and Maid her
butler and Butler her maid; Dwight D Eisensecond III - the American
tourist who never goes home; Gravely Hill the Little Whittle undertaker;
Doctor Hamish Blunder; The Vicar; Mr Wishy, owner of Wishy's Washy - Little
Whittle's Chinese laundry, and nim nim nim Miss Take the Little Whittle
school mistress and part time SAS group leader! These tales include the
story of Lady Lord's radio station, Lovely Lord Sound, battling for
listeners with Wonderful Radio Wattle run by, nim nim nim, Miss Take.

Here is a
clip for listeners of Radio Mercury and Southern Sound who were fans of
Timbo in the 1980's. Timbo (Tim Lloyd) sat in for Nick Meanwell
on BRMB in July 1989. The zany madcap style of show was quite different
to
BRMB's usual style which was a little more understated. After one of
Timbo's
repeated comments in this show, did he
ever
work on commercial radio again? Of course he went on to work for BBC
local radio!

RADIO ACOCKS
GREEN
- EVERYONE'S MUSIC SCENE -
Radio
Acocks Green was a very amusing spoof on local radio at the time.
Broadcast in April and on Boxing Day in 1979. Radio Acocks Green
performers include
Birmingham's
funnienst funny-man Jasper Carrott with BRMB's Ed Doolan, Adrian Juste
and Brian Savin with production by Phil Dawson. Almost incredibly Radio
Acocks Green lampooned local
radio and even some of BRMB's own programmes and presenters - the
spoofs included Tony Waiter, a take off of BRMB's legendary sports
presenter Tony Butler, spoof commercials, "Open Line" with Brian Nunn
(rather than BRMB's Alan
Nin) and "Tradio" where Radio
Acocks
Green listeners could sell their unwanted goods, as long as they cost
no more than 5 pence! More about Radio
